On August 17, the Teatro Auditorio of San Lorenzo de El Escorial will host the concert DIXERUNT, performed by countertenor Carlos Mena and the period-instrument orchestra La Madrileña, under the direction of José Antonio Montaño. The concert is part of the 2025 edition of the El Escorial International Summer Festival.
The programme is based on the CD DIXERUNT, a project led by Montaño and released by Sony Classical, which reflects their shared commitment to the recovery and dissemination of Spanish and European musical heritage from the 18th century. The project was made possible thanks to the support of the prestigious Leonardo Grant from the BBVA Foundation.
The repertoire will feature several works recovered and performed for the first time in modern times by Montaño and La Madrileña, including Ave Regina, Regina Caeli and the Second Lamentation for Holy Wednesday (1770) by Francesco Corselli; the Concerto for Two Violins in D minor by Mauro D’Alay, with soloists Maxim Kosinov and Ignacio Ramal; and the Concertino for Four Instruments in G major by Giovanni Battista Sammartini. The programme also includes Sammartini’s Symphony in G major J-C39, also featured on the CD, and will conclude with Domenico Scarlatti’s Salve Regina.
