José Antonio Montaño and La Madrileña have completed the recording sessions for their new album project at the historic Paraninfo of the Complutense University of Madrid. This project is focused on recovering unpublished operatic repertoire, featuring overtures and arias by composers such as Johann Adolf Hasse, Niccolò Jommelli, Leonardo Vinci, Egidio Duni, Nicola Gatti, and Pietro Alessandro Guglielmi. The scores, which belong to the Project Didone, in which Montaño worked for four years rescuing 3,000 arias, have been edited by Montaño himself alongside musicologists Ana Llorens and Álvaro Torrente at the Complutense Institute of Musical Sciences (ICCMU).
This project, supported by the prestigious Leonardo Grant from the BBVA Foundation, features the participation of Spanish mezzosoprano Lucía Caihuela, who has performed arias written for castrato.
The album will be released in the coming months by the Eudora Records label, marking the third discography of La Madrileña.
