On May 11, 2025, the highly anticipated premiere of Didone abbandonata, a three-act opera seria with music by Baldassare Galuppi and a libretto by Pietro Metastasio, will take place in its 1752 version, originally presented at the Palacio del Buen Retiro. The event will take place at Madrid’s National Auditorium and will feature a new critical edition of the score, prepared by José Antonio Montaño in collaboration with musicologists Ana Llorens and Álvaro Torrente.
Thanks to this meticulous edition, the audience will experience a deeply researched performance that stays true to the essence of the original work. This premiere is made possible thanks to the collaboration of the Centro Nacional de Difusión Musical (CNDM) and the research projects that supported its realization, such as DIDONE (European Research Council), DEEPMUSIC (Ministry of Science and Innovation), and Repertorium, led by the Complutense Institute of Musical Sciences (ICCMU).
